How to control your sleep and feel always refreshed in the morning !

Did you ever ask yourself why you feel always totally asleep in the morning ? And why it has taken you more than 2 hours and 3 coffees to wake up ? Well, most of you think it’s due to a lack of sleep. False!

I do not intend to give miracle solutions. The point is that if you know a bit more about yourself and how sleep works, then, just by following simple rules, you will be able to control your sleep and feel instantly refreshed in the morning.

Basically:
Sleeps are made of periodic cycles. Each sleep cycle lasts an average of 90 minutes and contains 5 phases. But we will only consider 3 phases for our purpose:

- 65 minutes of normal sleep;
- 20 minutes of REM sleep (rapid eye movement);
- 5 minutes of non-REM sleep.

If we were to sleep completely naturally, we would wake up after a multiple of 90 minutes. In the period between cycles we are not sleeping, it is a sort of twilight zone from which we move into another 90minutes cycle if we are not disturbed.

Basic rules to control your sleep and feel refreshed when waking up:

  • Sleep 4h30 rather than 5h !
  • Studies show that waking up feeling refreshed is not a matter of how much you sleep. The key is the number of sleep cycles you enjoy. A person who sleeps only 4 cycles (6h) will be more rested than someone who has slept for 7 hours but who has not completed any one cycle because of being awakened before the right moment.
    A multiple of 90 minutes will change your life: 1h30, 3h, 4h30, 6h, 7h30

  • Adjust your sleeping time by measuring the length of your sleep cycles
  • If after trying a multiple of 90 minutes, you don’t clearly see a difference then try 80 or 70 100 minutes and see if it works. Half of the people have shorter cycles.

  • Better sleep twice 3h a day than 6h at once
  • You’ll have a hell of a time staying awake for the remaining 18 hours. You’ve got to divide it into two (or more) sleep sessions.
